Farm manager (Gree’s full name) is responsible for the farm with all its vegetables, fruits and herbs. No chemicals are allowed here, and he is constantly looking for new methods to improve the soil as well as the harvest – all in a natural way.
About 100 years ago, all farming in Thailand was natural. Farmers followed the nature’s cycle without interfering with seasons, soil, or wildlife. When chemicals were introduced to farming, they were warmly welcomed, as they were only seen as a way to improve the quality of the harvest. Only a few decades ago, science has proved that in addition to breaking the nature’s cycle and what damage the soil suffers from these chemicals, some substances will also remain in the harvest and cause health problems for people eating it.
Sangaroon Farm itself has never been exposed to much chemicals, as the former owner was no farmer himself, but of course surrounding farms took up this new “improvement” – and to change again will require new methods, material – and time.
Everything in Sangaroon Farm is focused on on following the nature’s cycle, always looking for organic and natural ways to improve soil and products. All fertilizers and additives are organic, developed in cooperation with the local university in Chiang Mai. When research and testing is finished, hopefully they can be produced on a larger scale. The soil of the farm will be analyzed too see how we best can take care of its good quality. Compost research we do on the farm. We are also in close contact with the Royal Project in North Samoeng to ensure our development.
We believe that, by proving our organic farm successful, sharing experiences and cooperating closely with all interested parties, the whole region will in time turn to organic farming – thus contributing to improved health situation and giving life back to the earth.
